April updates: Drought, Solar project subscriptions, RRVID Public Scoping Meeting
The Jackson County Commissioners approved a formal request for Governor Kotek to make an emergency drought declaration in Jackson County. That makes us the sixth Oregon county to make a local drought declaration this year.

We are seeing a substantial snowpack deficit in our region due to record-high temperatures over the winter months. District reservoirs rely on snowpack to help fill the reservoirs in the spring and keep streamflows up. At this time, district reservoirs are not receiving much inflow, and the snowpack they rely on is less than five percent of the average for this date. 2015 was a comparable year for snowpack and reservoir levels, where we only had stored water until mid-September. While there are a lot of variables, not receiving more relief in the mountains by this date is concerning for our ability to make it a full season. Having a drought declaration in place makes financial and technical assistance available for the affected producers in our region.
Solar Project Update
The Medford Irrigation District Floating Community Solar Project is around 50% constructed with a target completion date of early May. The district still has plenty of subscriptions available for the energy the project will produce.
